The InternetPower.Org website is engineered by WessexCCS - Wessex Community Computing Services. We use Open Source technologies to build secure, reliable, efficient websites.
Anything you buy from us is maintainable by others in the event of resource constraints by using straightforward methods whose workings are known by many.
LAMP technologies
We use the LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) set of technologies to write PHP, HTML and MySQL code on which our projects our based. Our servers run Linux whose workings and security features are widely understood and robust.
Security
We take into account all security hazards that we know about:
- MySQL Injection attacks are countered by using default negative filtering - all information submitted by the public uses characters that are explicitly allowed by our choice so we know that every submitted item can be correctly processed;
- PHP injection attacks are countered by running PHP in Safe Mode and/or by running checks to make sure that all variables are explicitly set;
- We only use methods that we understand completely;
- This includes methods which we are shy about revealing in public but would be obvious to anyone who had to maintain a website created by us.
No expert knowledge needed
Our websites can be edited without complex expert knowledge greater than that needed to search with Google, book airline or train tickets, or use online services such as YouTube and Facebook. You will need to keep your website tidy and clear and to write the text well - but you do not have to learn complex procedures to do that.

- Contact forms including antispam protection
- Events listings
- User updateable text and image pages
- Online catalogues and shops
- Diary facility for admin which can interface to a public events listing
- We can also, when resources allow, use our own staff to provide editorial services for managing your website.
Of course you can use software such as the many well known Content Management Systems to do these things and more... but there are at least two reasons why we may provide a better solution:
- Content Management Systems are often large and complex. They may be hard to learn to use and may suffer from security issues;
- You may not be able to make a CMS provide web pages that look the way you want them to or provide the exact facilities you want.
